Best Al Fresco Family Outings In Dubai

Water, sport, day trip, or the park: there are many ways for families to enjoy the great outdoors

There are few places on this planet that indulge kids and families like Dubai. From monolith theme parks to watersports and beachside malls, everyone from babies and tots to tweens and teens are catered for. Now that the weather is cooling in the emirate, it’s the ideal time to gather your brood and head outdoors for some al fresco family fun. Whether it’s a trip to one of the city’s newest urban parks or pony rides at the stables, there’s something to suit all ages and adventure levels.

1. Legoland Dubai

Head over to this newly opened children’s paradise in Dubai Parks and Resorts and find out why families that shriek together have more fun. As well as a number of group rides including classics like Rescue Academy and Legoland Driving School, there’s a hair-raising Dragon coaster which will keep the little ones longing more. The best bit? There’s a waterpark too!

2. Kite Beach

There’s something for all ages from toddlers to teenagers at Kite Beach, Dubai’s hottest new hangout this winter. Toddlers will have no trouble burning off energy at the immaculately landscaped adventure playground The Journey in Umm Suqeim. Inside there are wooden treehouses, a mud kitchen, rope bridges, bow and arrows for archery, fountains to splash in, a waterfall and even a vegetable patch. Right behind, the park rubs shoulders with Jumeirah’s Kite Beach, outdoor trampolines and Skate Park, making it a one-stop-shop for family activities. Afterwards have dinner at one of the food trucks along the corniche.

Outdoor shopping districts are Dubai’s newest fashion and this low-rise shopping and dining district on JBR Beach offers the ultimate al fresco outing. Home to boutiques selling beach cricket sets, inflatable swim toys and camel mug souvenirs, there’s also a splash zone for kids, a floating water park, some of the city’s best dining options, frozen yoghurt and gelato stops, as well as an outdoor cinema.

4. Day trip to Hatta

Leave the skyscrapers and beaches far behind and conquer the mountains. Tucked away in the Hajar Mountains, the rocky enclave of Hatta is about a short 1.5-hour road trip from Dubai and home to natural springs and craggy mountain peaks. Prepare a picnic and take in some shade or stop into the Hatta Fort Hotel for lunch, where an array of family activities are on offer: archery, swimming, tennis and mini-golf. The more adventurous can hop onto a mountain bike and take on the many planned trails.
