Dubai Beauty Buys

All the trends, local names to know and the shops to visit

Dubai is a top destination for beauty devotees, with treatments ranging from traditional henna painting to products designed to withstand Dubai weather. Here are the trends to know about, the local brands to discover and the must-visit boutiques to add to your itinerary.

Trend-orientated, Mikyajy’s lines include foundation, mascara, eye shadows and lip colours in fashion-forward shades and luxe-look packaging. Their blacker-than-black kohls are modernised for water- and humidity-proof adaption, and allow women the choice to rim their eyes with a non-irritating formula of centuries-old traditional kohl, or to take their cue from Hollywood trends and opt for a smooth, winged liner – which, in keeping with the Arabic style, should be extended and oversized.

Formally known as Faces, Wojooh is Arabia’s answer to Sephora and stocks everything from Benefit and Elizabeth Arden to luxury brands such as Guerlain and Dior. Wojooh’s own line, Wow by Wojooh, caters to the Emirati customer with halal-certified nail polish as well as lipsticks and eye shadows in striking shades.

Huda Beauty

Long, jet-black lashes are a must-have, with many Arab women layering different mascaras to achieve both volume and length, and then adding false lashes – even during the day – for an exaggerated flutter. Huda Kattan, local blogger-turned-lash queen, is one of just a few Arabic entrepreneurs to see her brand stocked in Sephora stores around the region, with the Huda Beauty line offering different sets of false lashes dedicated to creating bigger, bolder eyes.

Bassam Fattouh

With Lebanese style a huge influence on Dubai’s modern beauty trends, over-lined lips can be spotted all over town, from Downtown to the Marina. Lebanese make-up artist Bassam Fattouh’s own line of pencils and lipsticks is the easiest way to achieve this ultra-full look in just a few steps. Lips are lined just over the natural lip shape and filled in with a rich and pigmented lipstick (such as those in his ‘Matte Tricks’ range) to blur thin lips and create the impression of a fuller pout.

Maria Dowling

When it comes to hair, our city isn’t short of great salons for a blow-dry and style. But if you want to recreate salon hair when you’ve returned home, make sure you purchase from Maria Dowling’s at-home line. Maria’s line directly addresses the issues desert-dwellers encounter in Dubai, with her deep cleansing Hair and Scalp Clay the perfect antidote to a grit-free mane post-sand storm, and for recapturing softness after showering in desalinated water.

Tatu Bijoux

Finish your look with a Dubai socialite’s latest must-have – temporary metallic tattoos. Inspired by traditional henna body art, the gold and silver temporary tattoos are designed to adorn your wrists, hands and ankles. Bijoux’s line ranges from delicate wedding bands and stylised Arabian armlet swirls to full back designs, each lasting 3-6 days once applied, provided they are maintained well.

If you are looking for premium yacht charter, Dubai’s own Boat Cruise Dubai is always ready to set sail for you.
