One of the theater world’s longest-running shows is making its way to Dubai this January. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much-loved Cats will delight audiences at the Dubai Opera from 16-28 January with its award-winning score and colorful costumes. But that’s not all in store for music fans – UK singing legend Elton John performs on 20 January at what is sure to be a night of high-flown entertainment, while the beats of Egypt come Dubai-side on 13 January at the Cairo Sound Music Festival.

Look back at the UAE’s beginnings
Take a step back in time to uncover the UAE’s history at the newly opened Etihad Museum. Located on the site where the treaty that formed the UAE was signed, the museum takes visitors on a tour of the Emirates’ evolution and the stories that have informed it. Be among the first to explore the museum’s many pavilions through interactive installations and exhibitions across the 25,000sqm space, open to the public from 7 January.

The world’s top marathoners battle it out in Dubai
Get set for some fast-paced action at the 17th Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on 20 January. The event kicks off the international sporting calendar in Dubai and sees a host of big-name athletes and amateur runners go up against the track with the iconic Burj Al Arab as a backdrop. Just one week later, on 27 January, the ultimate test of strength gets underway at the 70.3 Ironman race, where participants will run, swim and cycle to glory. Interested in something more leisurely? Be amazed by fire, water and light
New show at Dubai Festival City
Make your way down to Dubai Festival City and be prepared to experience a show like never before. The new multi-sensory experience dubbed Imagine melds fire, water, and laser light, and is set to enthrall visitors at Festival Bay, the mall’s newly refurbished outdoor area. Taking place every half hour in the evenings, the spectacle features colourful laser projections on dancing water fountains and aqua screens, with pyrotechnics and music to boot, making it a must-see experience.
